The devil is a liar and the father of lies, and he cannot stand in the truth:
John 8:44
"You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him".
Ephesians 4:25-28
"Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another".
However, the devil can also tell the truth when it serves his purposes. For example, when the devil tempted Jesus to throw himself off the Temple, he quoted Psalm 91:12, which says God will not let Jesus come to harm. However, the devil left out a crucial point that Jesus included in his reply:
"You shall not test the Lord."
